Non-Surgical Lumbar Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical, traction based treatment and it is becoming more and more available in our area. It seems like every time you turn on the TV there is a 30 minute infomercial for someone that does Spinal Decompression. Who do you suppose pays for that 30 minute commercial? You do! Stick around, read the info I've posted here. I have no plans to run 30 minute commercials and I pass that savings on to you, same idea with our website - "no frills" saves YOU money. Our clinic uses the most advanced Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Treatment System available anywhere at any price, yet we charge 70 to 80% less than any of the other clinics here in the Tyler or Athens area! I'm not aware of any other clinic that will even tell you what they charge if you call them!

Since cost is a big issue for a lot of patients (often you are hurt and not even working due to the pain) I will discuss it right up front! Typically it is only $60 per spinal decompression treatment here at our office (only $70 with e-stim and ice or heat afterward). Insurance does not ever cover Spinal Decompression Therapy or Acupuncture for that matter, EVER! We tried for 6 years to help our patients get coverage and a few did, back in 2006 and 2007 but all that came to an end in 2008 and we were never able to get it covered again.

I know some offices play games with codes and say it is covered but truthfully that is insurance fraud and I just won't get involved in it. Rates of reimbursement dropped almost 50% during 2008. We tried from then until 2012 to get your insurance to cover your treatments but they only cover the adjustment and some rehab exercises then you were left paying the out of pocket after your insurance denies paying the rest of your bills. It left everyone mad and no one but the insurance company was smiling. Remember that in gambling "the house always wins" and in a way insurance is like gambling and they are definitely the ones that always win.

Now lets discuss the Spinal Decompression Treatments themselves and how it all works and what it might do to help you get out of pain and avoid surgery!

Independent Chiropractors like myself as well as a large group of Medical Doctors and most multi-disciplinary pain relief focused clinics are proving beyond a doubt that Spinal Decompression Therapy may be your best chance to avoid back or neck surgery. There is a lot more to be said about Spinal Decompression and what it can offer you but the most important thing I can tell you right now is how to find out (for free) if you are a good candidate, how long it will take for the treatments and how much it will cost you. Right? Please read on and I will cover that and more.

How Can Spinal Decompression Therapy Help?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a "special" name for the effect caused by this traction based treatment where a negative pressure, like a vacuum, is temporary caused inside the disc, that can have a profound effect on the healing process due to increased contact with the blood supply and fibroblast migration (called the phasic effects). This is in addition to the pain relief created neurologically by stretching soft tissue (like stretch receptors and mechanoreceptors) which makes Decompression therapy a logical and viable addition to many pain care regiments. See the diagram below to help you get a visual of how the herniated/bulging disc might look.

When Should You Consider Spinal Decompression Therapy?

The Triton DTS represents the finest Non-Surgical Decompression Traction System available today. The Spinal Decompression Table is designed to apply distraction tension to the patient’s spine without eliciting reflex paravertebral muscle contractions.

Decompression therapy is very affordable and cheaper than surgery. Spinal Decompression/Traction is highly recommended by Neurological Research. It was found that out of 778 cases of patients receiving spinal decompression 92% said that they showed improvement (Neurological Research; Volume 20, Number 3, April 1998).

Disc Decompression, utilizing Decompression & Stabilization, is a unique non-surgical therapy developed for the treatment of chronic lower back pain, herniated discs and degenerative disc diseases.

The Decompression-Reduction-Stabilization therapy is an effective treatment for:

Herniated Disc
Degenerative Disc Disease
Facet Syndrome
Sciatica
• Post-surgical patients
Spinal Stenosis

The time to consider it is now. If you are still reading this then it is obvious that you or someone you care about has a problem. It won't cost you anything to find out more, the initial consultation is on me.

Here is a link to the research papers I've been able to find (brief one paragraph synopsis on most as well as links to the full research papers on others)

The last two things I want to discuss are the treatment plan options and the total costs.

The research shows that in most cases a treatment program for a ruptured or herniated disc begins with 20 spinal decompression treatments accomplished in a period of 4 to 6 weeks. This means that when your making a decision to start this program you should to be committed to finishing it. It won't do you any good to do what some patients have done, start treatment... go a week or two then have some stroke of genius and decide that you just know this isn't working because you aren't skipping rope and riding barrel horses again already. It has taken you years to screw your back up as bad as it is now, it will take months to restore it and the rest of your life for you to continue to take better care of yourself, this is true whether you treat and rehab with us or have surgery or if you treat anywhere else.

It is your health as well as my reputation on the line here and I take both very seriously, I hope you do too

There are 3 phases of DTS Therapy Program

  • Treatment - In Phase 1 we're focused on getting you out of pain.
  • Stabilization of structure - In Phase 2 we do physical rehabilitation to stabilize your structural weaknesses. This is the ONLY WAY to stop the pain from returning - forever!
  • Support of muscular system - In Phase 3 we get into full rehab mode and it is very focused on home therapy to be sure you know how to stay well on your own!

What else do you want to know? The cost, right, thought I left that out didn't you.

Spinal Decompression Therapy has been proven to work in many studies as well as in literally hundreds of doctors offices and hospitals all across the country. The Triton DTS machine we use has been proven successful with thousands and thousands of patients nationwide and around the world! But does that guarantee that you will get the same result? Unfortunately not, that is why I encourage you to investigate the clinic and the doctor you choose. Many (actually almost all) clinics use calculated sales tactics and charge $3,000 - $4,000 or more, (up front - no insurance billing) for the first 4  to 6 weeks of this type of Spinal Decompression Therapy Program!

When you commit to your program of care here at Advanced Medical Acupuncture & Spinal Decompression Center the charges are typically about $70 (some are 60, some long rehab visits are even 90 based on time). That is the total per treatment including rehab and pain management therapy. You can pay each visit as you are treated or if you prefer we offer several payment options. This is with no insurance! Yes you heard me correctly, only $60-$90 and there are NO DEDUCTABLES TO MEET!

When you look at the full 6 week, 20 visit treatment program that ends up costing about $1500 or less - thats for the entire program of spinal decompression therapy, chiropractic, and in the beginning it includes modalities like electric muscle stimulation + ice packs and later, when your ready for phase 2 of care the $90 covers physical rehabilitation exercises in the office as well as instruction in home exercises. And that is assuming your case is really bad and takes the full 20 visits of Lumbar Disc Decompression Therapy to respond. Some patients respond faster, some see drastic pain reduction in as few as 3-6 treatments, this allows us to move to the second phase of care that much faster decreasing your total number of visits and therefore decreasing your overall expense.

I want you to know that I am truly committed to your health goals, for that reason I make you three simple promises. I will do everything I can to help you, I will never give up on you and I will never let money stand in the way of you getting the care you need.

Actually more than half of our patients don't come in with "full blown herniated discs" but with some level of disc degeneration that has been causing them misery for years. These type cases respond much faster, often this type patient might feel relief from the first few visits, what we have to watch though is that it still takes a considerable amount of time to get the disc to re-hydrate to the point that the results are more permanent. This can get us into the second phase with the rehab early on but then we really have to stay diligent with the decompression treatments so you don't lose what you've gained.

Remember, several payment options are available to you and we take credit cards. Please don't let money stand in the way of your return to health. Call, come in and let's discuss it. Give us an opportunity to help you. Please bring your MRI on disc or film, your MRI reports and X-Rays etc. for me to review. You don't have to have all of that necessarily but if it has been done already why redo the tests?

If you qualify and are ready we can continue (and if we have time scheduled) and do an orthopedic/neurologic examination to determine clinically how bad of shape you're in, then we may move on to treatment if you approve of the plan. Yes we often do that all the same day. Is that straight forward enough for you?

So what do you do now?

The choice is yours, do we do something about your problem or do we just let time and gravity make it worse?

Call the office now and we will schedule you for an initial evaluation, the number is 903-570-7080. If it is after hours just leave us a message so we can call you when we get back into the office.

We feature " Biomedical Acupuncture for Pain Management" as taught to Dr. Dixon personally by Dr. Yun-Tao Ma PhD.  Dr. Ma teaches Biomedical Acupuncture Needling based on Neuroanatomy rather than energy meridians. I believe, based on my many years of personal experience treating patients on a daily basis (with acupuncture since 2003), that this is the most scientifically solid acupuncture technique for pain control in a Chiropractic and/or Pain Management office setting. In addition to acupuncture we feature Spinal Disc Decompression with the Chattanooga DTS Disc Decompression System for Complete Spinal Rehabilitation in cases of Degenerative Disc Disease and Bulged or Herniated Disc in the Lumbar Spine.

Dr. Dixon has proudly served Chandler, Tyler, Brownsboro, Murchison, Edom, Ben Wheeler,
Frankston  & the entire Lake Palestine area since 2001.
He continues to serve you from Tyler at his new clinic location near TJC's new Nursing School.
